A RE[A]SIDENCY

A collaborative Residency Project in order
to accelerate European talents

We Support Experimentation & Innovation

ARE[A]SIDENCY is a collaborative residency project in order to accelerate European talents in art, architecture and design hybridizing technologies from AEC, AI, neuro-design, co-botics and robotics. The R&D focus of this collaborative cross-disciplinary investigation aims at developing careers and new business attitudes through an integrated technology process into the creative fields.

3 main institutional partners from France (Paris), Austria (Linz) and Spain (Barcelona), aggregate their complementary strengths in order to nurture and promote emergent ways of creating as an integration of cutting-edge technological tools inside the design process.

ARE[A]SIDENCY program will start in September 2018 and launch 3 sessions of 8-months residency for a 2 years cycle.

This program will be intensively demanding as punctuated by many events to animate and meant to evaluate the creative process as workshops, conferences, lectures, and art show participation.

It’s a B2B and B2C collaboration as it is not only meant to train and develop new technologies and emerging new businesses and then reinforcing artistic and architectural skills through cross-disciplinarity but it also aims to inform and educate a larger audience about this post-digital revolution in art and architecture through more mainstream channels of communication.

In a longer-term future, this project will lead to a more steady cursus as a post-master program recruiting European researchers.

ARE[A]SIDENCY

supports and celebrates experimentation and innovation.

It aims at participating in the invention of our common, European digital horizon, by promoting research, creation and knowledge dissemination through several countries and scenes.

Industrial creation integrating art, architecture and design with technological means such as robotics, AI, neurodesign, cobotics, additive manufacturing, faces a second digital revolution impacting largely the creative processes and its outcomes: new entrepreneurship attitudes.

The digital and post-digital revolutions are having a massive impact on how cultural and creative goods are made, fabricated, disseminated, accessed, and hit a totally different market also deeply transformed. Robotics also infers into the creative processes and more than ever, any creation necessitates a complete team of various talents and abilities. Innovation is at the very heart of creation and any creative process could lead to new startups and entrepreneurship models.

In order to adapt to the post-digital shift, the use of digital technologies from production to distribution and consumption became mandatory. Digital design and architecture are also deeply modified in their practice also with the use of robotic tools.

At a time when the vertical integration of digital design, visualisation and fabrication technologies promises a re-materialisation of architecture, to investigate the notion of fabrication may appear paradoxical. This crucial question nevertheless continues to nurture interest and developments as means of fabrication are deeply altered by a new era of industrialization.

With the import of simulation tools, based on the use of genetic algorithms, and of robotic procedures, has profoundly shaken the notions of fabrication in creative processes, especially in the fields of Arts, Design and Architecture.

Today’s software and exponential computing power of our machines introduce the possibility to work without loss, in an exhaustive and exact manner, reconnecting design with physical, material and constructive reality. This reconciliation with the real, that some thought to have spotted in the literality of early digital representations, has now become effective.

Aware of such a revolution ARE[A]SIDENCY aims at offering to young professionals a springboard platform in order to accelerate their research and providing resources, services, virtual and physical places to exchange techniques and technologies, and then nurture, develop and disseminate those new entrepreneurship profiles internationally.
